The Peninsula Hotels eyes new destinations

London, India and South America are among the destinations on the drawing board for The Peninsula Hotels, but plans for a Sydney property have fallen through.

The luxury chain unveiled its ninth property in October – The Peninsula Shanghai – while The Peninsula Paris is due to open in 2012 and will be the group’s first European property. Jean Forrest, Peninsula’s general manager marketing, said the company would continue to explore further expansionalthough it was no hurry to increase its property portfolio.

“We’d love to be in London – it’s about finding the right location and situation – and we’re also looking at India and South America,” she said The company had also looked at a location in Sydney this year but this hadn’t worked out, said Forrest, who is visiting from the company’s Hong Kong head office for its annual roadshow. But there was “no great sense of urgency” to add new properties as the hotel group was already growing at a rapid rate. It is more about long-term asset value, Forrest said. The Peninsula Hotels was also looking to maximise the potential of its existing properties by adding new features to them, she added.
