MoT to highlight ‘Colours of India’ & niche tourism products at ITB Berlin 2011

Highlighting niche tourism offerings and showcasing ‘Colours of India,’ (theme) will be the focus of Ministry of Tourism (MoT), Government of India at ITB Berlin 2011. The India Pavilion (870 square metres) will witness a sizeable participation of 60 industry stakeholders and about eight to ten state tourism boards. A high-level delegation led by Subodh Kant Sahay, Union Tourism Minister will participate at the event scheduled to take place from March 9-13, 2011.

Apart from promoting Wellness and Medical Tourism, as well as other niche segments like Adventure Tourism, Ecotourism etc, MoT, according to sources, is also expected to give a presentation on hosting the 18th Championship F1 Race at Greater Noida (construction of race track is underway), near Delhi in October this year. The event will give a boost to Sports Tourism. Along with the various stalls promoting destinations, tourism products and services, Incredible India will be showcased by highlighting the culture and heritage of the country through cultural performances and artisans like ‘Mehndi’ artists, traditional bangle sellers etc.

The delegates participating in India Pavilion this year include agents, tour operators and hoteliers, while the two public enterprises participating are Air India and IRCTC. Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Lakshadweep are some of the participating states. MoT is also expecting some states from N Eastern region to also be part of India Pavilion. Few Indian states like Kerala, Karnataka, etc have booked space outside India Pavilion to showcase their offerings independently.
