MoT to deploy about 450 linguist guides for CWG

Ministry of Tourism (MoT) with the help of Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism (IITTM) will impart guide training to about 470 select candidates in 10 different foreign languages. These candidates have been selected from North Indian states of Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh after written test and interviews. The candidates hold a bachelor degree with certain amount of proficiency in any foreign language, including German, Italian, Russian, Japanese, Korean, French, and Spanish.

The eight-week training programme, which is underway at IITTM Gwalior will conclude by month end.  According to Dr Sandeep Kulshreshtha, Chairman – Academics, IITTM, the training comprises of three weeks class room sessions and five weeks of practical training. “Out of the five week practical training, one week will be for field visit,” he informed. The candidates who successfully complete the training programme will be offered license by MoT to work as approved guides by the government. Ministry intends utilize the services of these guides for the upcoming Commonwealth Games to be held in October 2010 in Delhi.
