Maharashtra Govt. sanctions an additional 25 crore for promoting Tiger Reserves in Vidharbha

The state forest department will promote tiger tourism in Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. Prithviraj Chavan, Chief Minister, Maharashtra had directed finance department to provide additional funds for promoting tiger reserves at Tadoba, Melghat and Pench.

The budgetary allocation from the union government was Rs 25 crore and with additional funds worth Rs 25 crore, a total of Rs 50 crore will be available for the development of the reserves. The Tadoba Tiger reserve had 1 lakh tourist footfalls in 2010.

The forest department is putting together a plan to double the number of tourists visiting tiger reserves. Good facilities and packages for circuit trips to various tiger reserves are on cards to promote forest tourism in the region.
