Las Vegas to host WTTC summit

Las Vegas has been chosen to host the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) 2011 Global Travel & Tourism summit.
Council president Jean-Claude Baumgarten said members had shown ‘overwhelming’ support of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) bid.

He said: “Our 10th Global Summit takes place next month in Beijing and we fully intend to make the most of the more than 12 months between now and the Las Vegas event to promote the importance of travel and tourism and also its wider impact on other sectors.

Hosting the event, which is to take place from May 15 to 19 2011, was described as an honour by LVCVA President/CEO Rossi Ralenkotter.

He added: “Las Vegas is a premier destination for leisure and business travel and welcomes more than 36 million visitors annually from around the world.

“The industry generates $30 billion for Southern Nevada and employs 235,000 people. The industry is the economic driver for the State.”

The summit will be held at ARIA Resort & Casino, the centrepiece of urban resort CityCenter which opened late last year.
